Thomas, often known as 'Newby' or, principally by Fiona and Jenny Draper as 'Noob', joined the society in 2005-06 for Patience 06. After surviving the chorus for Patience, he impressed us all with his American accent in Guys and Dolls as Harry the Horse, with the line "and I still wish it" becoming a society catchphrase.
After another spell in the chorus for Pirates 07 and much waltzing as Count Danilo in The Merry Widow section of Kaleidoshow, Thomas played Robin in Ruddigore 08. He also survived being Treasurer 2007-08.
We thought he'd managed to escape by running away down south, but he was back in time to be cast as Dr Daly in Sorcerer 10.
Making his directorial debut in 2010 for the summer show, Be Our Guest, Thomas took on the massive job of arranging a cabaret of classic Disney songs for chorus and band. He immediately then agreed to act as choir master / Assistant Musical Director for our next production, 48-hour Pirates of Penzance, so he must have enjoyed it!
Newby also musically directed Panorama The Musical.
