Domain Name Registration
gsyork.co.uk expires 21/5/2011.
Web hosting
Michael Houston is currently hosting the site.
Previously we were paying for web hosting from http://www.34sp.com
- £17.95/year
- 500MB storage
- 2GB/month transfer
- PHP, MySQL, all that good stuff
- Expires 5/10/2009
The University web space (http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~socs46) now automatically redirects all visitors to the gsyork domain. Some old versions of the site still reside within http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~socs46/ but all the content has been put into the current website's archives by now.
Subdomains
- http://www-users.york.ac.uk/~socs46 redirects to http://www.gsyork.co.uk
- http://www.gsyork.co.uk points to the main hosting
- http://gsyork.co.uk, ditto
- http://wiki.gsyork.co.uk is set up as an alias for wikidot.com, which allows this wiki to use it.
- http://forum.gsyork.co.uk is pointing to the main hosting, and provides (surprise!) a forum.
- ku.oc.kroysg|ofni#ku.oc.kroysg|ofni redirects to ku.ca.kroy|64scos#ku.ca.kroy|64scos
- Anything else @gsyork.co.uk also forwards to ku.ca.kroy|64scos#ku.ca.kroy|64scos but it is preferable just to use info
- All email that goes into ku.ca.kroy|64scos#ku.ca.kroy|64scos gets copied on to gro.usuy|kroysg#gro.usuy|kroysg
- All email that goes into gro.usuy|kroysg#gro.usuy|kroysg gets copied on to moc.liamg|64scos#moc.liamg|64scos - this means we can safely delete stuff from the uni account when we reach our quota, and the archives will still be available on gmail.
- All email addressed to gro.usuy|kroysg#gro.usuy|kroysg and not to ku.ca.kroy|64scos#ku.ca.kroy|64scos nor ku.oc.kroysg|ofni#ku.oc.kroysg|ofni is forwarded to ku.ca.kroy|64scos#ku.ca.kroy|64scos
- We should use gro.usuy|kroysg#gro.usuy|kroysg on official university stuff (freshers' fair, daily info) but it is useful to have a never changing ku.oc.kroysg|ofni#ku.oc.kroysg|ofni
Content Management System
The website is using MODx from http://www.modxcms.com/ for its content management. This makes it particularly easy to keep the website up to date and also has a good framework to do more complicated / special things.
There is a guide to using the management interface. Members of the committee with accounts can use it to update the site as needed.
